Throughout this year in Fundamentals of Studio Art 1, I’ve learned how to use all the artistic behaviors in different ways. For Create Original Art, the first behavior, we did that basically first thing in this class, we sketched in our sketch books and made original pictures. The next skill was Develop Art Making Skills, which we did with the stamps we made. We learned how to make and carve our own stamps and that is an art skill. Next Communicate Through Their Work which I did in my hunger project. In that I made a piece of art that told a story and portrayed something deeper than just being paints on a paper. Another skill was Take Chances/Risks which I did in many different pieces of work. I would create something and not want to touch it in case I ruined it but eventually would to just try. Such as my Salvador Dali piece, which I liked just sketched but then pushed myself to paint it. For the skill Collaborate, my whole table collaborated every single project. We asked for opinions and critic all the time while working on things. For Solving Problems I did this for a lot of my projects. Certain things would happen like I would mess up on a color of paint or something and have to think to fix it. For a lot of projects I did this, trying to fix things a solve problems, which I did. Next is Reflect which I also did for almost every piece. We reflected on Weebly and shared our thoughts about our pieces. Lastly was Have a Global Awareness of Artmaking, which we did with our artist research project. I did Salvador Dali for my artist and researched him a ton and then made a piece based on his style of artwork. We used these artist skills a lot throughout the year.
Going through my art this year, I had a lot of ups and downs. I had a lot of pieces that I loved and a lot that I didn’t like so much, which is okay. My favorite was probably my two hands interacting. It was a a sketch of hands which I usually hate drawing but I really loved the way it came out. It was one of the best things I’ve ever made. Another favorite of mine was my hunger piece which came out great to me and was what I imagined it would be. A piece that really reflects me I feel like is almost all of my art. Every project we did had an element of me put into it somehow. Like my square watercolor project with a picture drawn over it. I had blue and purple colors with a white polar bear over it. I feel like it has an element of me because those are my two favorite colors and an animal that I love. It puts an element of fun and stupidity which is totally me. To me art is important and a way to express how I feel. I really believe that art is an important part of life and can change the world. Everyone can appreciate art and it can go so much deeper than just oil on paper. It can range from innocent pictures of cats to works of art that talk of controversial topics. Next year i’m taking AP art, and even though I hate school and can’t wait for summer, I sort of can’t wait for that class to start.
